Push to Talk

If you’ve ever spent time on the NYC subways you’ve probably seen this sign: Push to Talk.

After a couple years of riding the 4/5 every day, and i became interested in who might actually be on the other end of that button. Part of the subway experience involves barely discernable announcements from some unseen operator booming from the speakers in what you guess might be an obscure English mole-person dialect (one day i swear Dianna Ross was making the announcements). Is it some matrix-esque wormhole to another dimension? is Dick Chenney really listening to everything I say? Can i summon the Fail Whale at will?

Who’s Listening was a set of installations to enhance the subway call system signage to further explain the communication chain. Below are a couple of the stickers, or feel free to download the PSD and have some fun yourself…
